What is salted peanuts, khara shing, khara singdana, salted groundnuts?



Salted peanuts are the tangy tasty peanuts, prepared in two manners.

1) Deep fried salted peanuts. Fry them in heated oil and then sprinkling salt to it. It is a delicious snack in itself. The peanuts turn golden brown in color. The texture is hard.

2) Boiled salted peanuts. Pressure cook the peanuts in its covering itself. The peanuts turn soft in texture, moist and show a pale pink skin, which can wear off. Cool them and sprinkle some salt over it and mix gently.
The salted peanuts can then be powdered or roasted as per the recipe requirement.
Chopped salted peanuts
Using a sharp knife cut it into half from the centre. Cut the half portion into another half and chop it by cutting them in small pieces approximately ¼ inch in diameter, although the chopped food doesn't need to be exactly the same size. If the recipe calls for the ingredients to be "coarsely chopped," make the pieces slightly larger.
Crushed salted peanuts
Salted Peanuts can be crushed partially or finely as desired. It can be done with either using a mortar and pestle or a grinder. This can be a great addition to any sweet or savory food items.
Roasted and chopped salted peanuts
After roasting raw peanuts, allow them to cool and then remove the skin. Place a handful of  peanuts on a chopping board and using a sharp knife, cut them into halves from the centre. Cut the half portion into another half. Chop ingredients by cutting them in small pieces approximately ¼ inch in diameter, although chopped peanuts doesn't need to be exactly the same size. If the recipe calls for the ingredients to be "coarsely chopped," make the pieces slightly larger
Roasted salted peanuts
Peanuts can be roasted as well as salt can be added as preferred. In a pan, on a medium flame roast the peanuts after removing their skin. Roast till light brown in colour and then add salt as per the taste.

l Salted Peanuts can be savored as a snack in itself along with the tea or coffee.
l You can top it up in Kurmura Bhel as well as other chaats such as Sev puri or Sukha Bhel or Ragda Samosa. It provides a crunchy effect while chewing.
l Salted singdana is one of the the key ingredients used in Gujrati Dabeli or Double Roti. It is put in between the cut pav along with the chutneys and again put after a layer of the filling in between the pav.
l These are had a chakhana along with alcoholic beverages in parties.
l You can very well sprinkle little salted peanuts over the salads, if you are bored of eating the green salads on a daily basis. This gives a variety to the salads.
l You can also use it in raithas.

The hard textured or fried salted peanuts can be stored in an air tight container in you storage cabinet. For storing the boiled salted peanuts, you require refrigeration. It has a shorter shelf life comparatively.
