For Instant Poha Idli
1 cup raw rice (chawal)
1/4 cup thick beaten rice (jada poha)
1/4 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
1/4 tsp fenugreek (methi) seeds
1/4 cup curd (dahi)
salt to taste
1 tsp fruit salt


For instant poha idli

  1. To make {span class="bold1"}instant poha idli{/span}, place the rice in a deep bowl. Clean and wash the rice well. Drain, add the poha and enough water and soak for 2 hours. Drain well
  2. Clean, wash the urad dal and fenugreek seeds thoroughly and soak with enough water in a deep bowl for at least 2 hours. Drain well.
  3. Combine the rice- poha mixture and ½ cup of water in a mixer and blend till smooth.
  4. Combine the urad dal, fenugreek seeds and ¼ cup of water in a mixer and blend till smooth.
  5. Combine the two batters and curd and salt in a deep bowl and mix very well.
  6. Just before steaming the idlis, add the fruit salt and 2 tsp of water and mix gently.
  7. Put spoonfuls of the batter into greased idli moulds and steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. Repeat with the remaining batter to make more {span class="bold1"}instant poha idlis{/span}.
  9. Serve the {span class="bold1"}instant poha idlis{/span} hot with sambhar and coconut chutney.
