Ingredients

For The Masala
1 tbsp urad dal (split black lentils)
1 tbsp chana dal (split bengal gram)
1 tbsp coriander (dhania) seeds
1 tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tbsp sesame seeds (til)
2 to 3 dry whole kashmiri red chillies
1 tsp asafoetida (hing)
salt to taste

For The Rice
3 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
3 tbsp soaked chana dal (split bengal gram)
7 to 8 curry leaves (kadi patta)
4 dry whole kashmiri red chillies
1 tsp asafoetida (hing)
3 tsp roasted and coarsely crushed sesame seeds (til)
3 tbsp roasted and coarsely crushed peanuts
1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
5 to 6 small green brinjals
2 tbsp tamarind water
water as required
salt to taste
3 tbsp masala (recipe above)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 cup cooked rice
Method

For the masala

    For the masala
  1. Roast all the ingredients except salt in a pan for 3 to 4 minutes and blend in a mixer till smooth.

For the rice

    For the rice
  1. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a deep pan
  2. Add mustard seeds, soaked dal, curry leaves, dry chilies, hing, sesame crush, peanut crush, fresh coconut, brinjals and mix well.
  3. Add some tamarind water and regular water.
  4. Cover it by lid and allow it too cook
  5. After the brinjals are cooked add 3 tspn of prepared masala.
  6. Then add cooked rice to it.
  7. Mix well and again allow it to cook.
  8. Finally add salt to taste.
  9. Serve Hot.
