Description
Green leaves are often used as to garnish certain foods like cakes, pastries etc. These are nothing but simple green leaves of any tree. Any size of leaf can be used, preferably with thick veins so that the design and the impression of the leaf on food can be easily seen and imparted. Most commonly, lemon leaf is used as it has thick veins. Melted chocolate, for instance, is spreaded on the back of leaf, cooled and slowly removed to make chocolate leaves for garnishing. Similarly, coloured doughs can be also made into different shape of leaves and used as garnishings.
How to Select
When choosing for a green leaf, be very careful that the leaf is pesticide free and washed very well before it is used. Also choose and pick thick veined leaves.
Culinary Uses
Leafs are used as garnishing purposes, where ingredients like chocolate, coloured edilble doughs are spreaded on them and the design hence is imparted on the food, which are further used to garnish cakes, pastries, etc.
